Campaign News

Cynthia McKinney today expressed her appreciation for the support of Professor Noam Chomsky, noted linguist tenured at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In private emails with campaign supporters this week, the respected social critic noted that he had voted Green in 2004, and would be voting for the party ticket next Tuesday, as well.

"I find it very gratifying that our campaign has garnered the support and vote of such an eminent thinker and noted critic of our nation's foreign policy," said Ms. McKinney, Green Party nominee for President of the United States. "I share Professor Chomsky's analysis that our vote is best invested in building an institution which will survive the close of the polls next Tuesday."

Rep. Cynthia McKinney wants to clarify that she is ready and willing to debate all other presidential candidates in the 2008 race. She has
already been in debates with independent candidate Ralph Nader twice, and has attended a debate online at which all other candidates failed to appear despite ample notice. She has been consistently excluded from any debate involving Republican and Democratic nominees for president, despite calls for inclusion. Rosa Clemente, her vice-presidential candidate, is similarly willing to debate any other vice-presidential nominee.

Cynthia McKinney, Missouri's Green Party presidential nominee, has officially been certified to be a write-in candidate for the upcoming Nov. 4 election.

McKinney represents one of the four third-party Presidential nominees, including Bob Barr for the Libertarian party, Chuck Baldwin for the Constitution party and Ralph Nader, who is running as an Independent. All four will be placed on a majority of ballots throughout the United States.

If elected, McKinney, along with her vice president, Rosa Clemente, plans to end U.S. military activity in Iraq and Afghanistan and execute a not-for-profit healthcare system.

. . .

"I am proud to be able to write in Cynthia McKinney for President on my ballot this year," said Midge Potts, state co-chair of the progressive party of Missouri. "Missourians are demanding real change in the American political system."

Potts, a write-in candidate for U.S. Representative in the seventh Congressional district, said McKinney is known for being a maverick.

(WASHINGTON, DC -- The following response to an October 27 Washington Post article on Green presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney was prepared with the intent of submitting as a guest column.

The Post's editorial department discouraged such a submission, and recommended sending a letter to the editor instead. The Post imposes a 200-word limit on letters to the editor, which would have made an effective response to the article impossible. The decision was thus made to publish the response, written by party media coordinator Scott McLarty, in a news release.

Greens -- locally, DC Statehood Greens -- have expressed concern that Washington's hometown paper avoided covering the McKinney campaign throughout most of the election season and then published an article misrepresenting the McKinney campaign eight days before the Election. Similar concerns about a possible editorial bias led the DC Statehood Green Party to hold a press conference outside the front door of the Post in downtown Washington on July 31 to challenge the Post's failure to cover Statehood Green candidates.)

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Green Party of the United States has become the first political party to endorse the Election Integrity Pledge promoted by Standing For Voters (http://www.StandingForVoters.org), an internet-based group inviting candidates to pledge their commitment to fair elections.

Along with the Green Party, several Green Party candidates have pledged 'no early concessions' and actions challenging election outcomes if necessary: presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney and vice presidential candidate Rosa Clemente; US Congressional candidates Carol Brouillet (Calif.-14), Rebecca Dewitt (Ariz.-4), Harold Burbank (Conn.-5), and Mike Beilstein (Or.-4); and five candidates for state and local offices: Dan Kairis of Illinois, Richard Boyle of California, Rick Lass of New Mexico, Allan Hancock of Minnesota, and Charles A. Pillsbury of Connecticut.

WASHINGTON, DC -- The co-chairs of the Green Party's International Committee (http://www.gp.org/committees/intl) have responded to an attack by Alan Dershowitz against the Green Party and its position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The text of the response follows below

On October 12, Mr. Dershowitz, a prominent attorney, published an op-ed column in The Daily News (New York) titled "Both Barack Obama and John McCain are true friends of Israel ..." (http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2008/10/12/2008-10-12_both_barack_ob...).

In his column, Mr. Dershowitz accused the Green Party and Green presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney of anti-Semitism and endorsed elections limited to two political parties.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green Party presidential nominee Cynthia McKinney will participate in a webcast forum for presidential candidates on Sunday, October 19, to be aired 7 to 9 pm on BreakTheMatrix.com.

Only votes for Cynthia McKinney and other Green candidates will bring real health care reform closer to reality; Greens blast Obama ad for misrepresenting Single-Payer

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green candidates and leaders, encouraged by an open letter from Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), called the Green Party the only hope for guaranteed health care for all Americans.

On October 6, PNHP (http://www.pnhp.org) published "Doctors to Candidates: Enact Single-Payer Health Reform," announcing that 5,000 physicians have signed an open letter challenging candidates to endorse the Single-Payer plan, also called Medicare For All (http://www.pnhp.org/letter).

WASHINGTON, DC -- The National Women's Caucus (http://greens.org/gp-uswomen) of the Green Party of the United States has sent an open letter to the National Organization for Women (http://www.now.org) urging support for the Green Party's presidential ticket. The text of the letter is appended below.

The letter cites Green nominee Cynthia McKinney's six terms in Congress and her unmatched dedication to the principles of equality and human rights championed by NOW. The National Women's Caucus emphasizes the historical role that alternative parties have played in the struggle for women's suffrage and rights, and notes that NOW has failed even to recognize the significance of America's first national campaign by two women of African descent: Ms. McKinney is African American and running mate Rosa Clemente is Black Puerto Rican.

"A Fraud on the American Voter": Greens protest the exclusion of McKinney and other qualified candidates from the debate, control of the debates by the Democratic and Republican parties and corporate sponsors; Greens insist on voters' right to know about all presidential candidates

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney will be blogging live at the web site of the 2008 Presidential Debates Project (http://www.bloggingthedebates.com), a project of VoterWatch.org, during the debate between Barack Obama and John McCain in Oxford, Mississippi on Friday, September 26.

On Wednesday, Cynthia McKinney said she is ready to step in for John McCain at the debate, after Mr. McCain called for postponement of the event (http://www.gp.org/press/pr-national.php?ID=108).
